in USA Hockey National High School Tournament
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. -- February 8, 2010 -- The California Amateur Hockey
Association (CAHA) announced today that it has selected the JSerra Catholic High School
hockey team to represent California in the 2010 USA Hockey National High School
Tournament. Sponsored by USA Hockey, the tournament will feature varsity teams from across
the country who have earned the right to compete, on behalf of their state, for the national title.
The JSerra Ice Lions are coached by former Mighty Ducks of Anaheim defenseman David
Karpa. Formed two years ago, the Ice Lions were the first high school hockey team in Southern
California.
“We selected the JSerra Ice Lions as California’s inaugural team based on their rigorous
schedule, high-level of play in regional tournaments featuring top U.S. and Canadian teams and
most importantly – because of their focus on developing outstanding student/athletes,” said Steve
Laing, president of CAHA.
“We are honored to represent our state in this tournament,” said JSerra Ice Lions Head Coach
David Karpa. “Since the program was founded two years ago, we have been focused on
developing athletes who are top students and role models in their community. Being asked to
represent California in this prestigious tournament is a unique opportunity to give back to the
local hockey community who has supported us in becoming the team we are today.”
The 2010 USA Hockey National High School Tournament will be held in Chicago April 14-18.

I plan on being at the meeting on the 18th. Will Jserra be taking non-student hockey players next year? We are weighing the pros and cons between sending our son to SM or JS. Heard SM will continue to take non-student players in their program again next year. Will JS follow suit or keep it to only their students? We don't want to find out come next year the school will be taking non school players.

I realized the meeting was last week. For some reason it registered as the 28th. Will there be another meeting?

I should hope not... it's bad enough to accept a bid to the Nationals and leave some players behind that don't attend the school. Let's not encourage bringing in new "talent" that, for whatever reason, didn't want to play for JSerra this last season.
Just my $0.02.

Please elaborate on your comment - the leaving some players behind part. Just out of curiousity, how many? What positions?
USA Hockey High School Nationals only allow students of the representing school (or for some reason, home schooled students that play for the school) to be included at Nationals. JSerra's Varsity team this year had a goalie and a forward that do not fit that criteria and will not be eligible to play in Nationals.

Where are the rules located that disclose this information? As far, as the invite - there is more to the story but I WILL allow your President to comment. Schedule still up in the air and the ONLY team you have scheduled is a D II team and is ranked 44th in the state of N Y as of Mar 3, 2010. The other two teams are T B D - at least that is what is on your website.

As far, as leaving kids behind - NO kids should be left behind. The kids and families supported this team and shouldn't get dupped regardless. Know the rules prior to accepting or don't accept - pretty simple. JMO
Never said I was affiliated with JSerra... read their stories with skepticism as PR, imo.
See the USA Hockey web page (http://www.usahockey...etailedNews=yes) for info but basically:
The 2010 National High School Tournament – Varsity Division will be held in Chicago from April 14-18 and is defined as follows:
"Varsity Division (Male and Female teams)"--Pure teams. Formal high school and private school teams or non-varsity teams consisting of full-time students attending the same high school or private school or full-time students that are eligible to play sanctioned varsity high school sports at that school. that are community based public high schools, private schools drawing their students exclusively from a local metropolitan area (excluding any school that boards players). OR, a combined team from a State that has NO pure teams. Representation from each state will be determined by the State Affiliate participating in the tournament. ..."

This young man is a great player and a great kid, he has alot of friends on the team, he chose to play AAA and was not rostered with JSerra this year. We would love to have him but, this year is out of the question and we are hoping their family will choose to play with the school next year.
